Looking for the perfect Tradwife dress for your wardrobe? You’ve landed in the right place. – Welcome Trad Woman!
What is a Tradwife?
The term “Tradwife” originated from the phrase “traditional housewife”. A Tradwife can also be referred to as a housewife, or a homemaker – this is a term more familiar to me personally, as I consider myself a homemaker.
A tradiwife is a woman who chooses to live a more traditional lifestyle by prioritizing her divine feminine energy, her role as a stay at home mom, taking care of her husband, nurturing her children, and creating safe, and inspiring home for her family. She prioritizes these domestic duties over pursuing a career or occupational path outside the home.
You might find a trad wife (or homemaker) embracing a traditional lifestyle by cooking nourishing meals, having babies, cleaning and keeping up the home, and of course – what you came here to look for: expressing her feminine style through selective garments and beautiful tradwife dresses.
In this article, we will talk a bit about the history of these dresses, the characteristics of traditional vs more modern day options, and of course – where you can find you own Tradwife dress today!
The History of The Tradwife Dress
The history of these dresses can be traced back as far as 20th century.
During this time, women’s dresses were more conservative and modest than most (not all) of what we see today. These dresses were long – landing below the ankle, had high necklines, and were made with long sleeves.
This style of dress was most often made of non synthetic fibers like silk, organic cotton, and linen. The patters were feminine, flattering, and typically simple things like small floral, polka, and stripes.
Traditional vs Modern Tradwife Dresses
As we are clearly not in the 20th century anymore, time has changed women’s fashion quite a lot. This includes the now trending trad dress.
Though there are still groups of women who cherish and wear the traditional versions of the dress, a more modern (or trending) version of the trad dress is a bit more daring. Toting a shorter hemline, a little tighter, brighter prints, lower necklines, and not always made from natural fibers – though you can find many options that are.
There are also some beautiful “in between” traditional and modern trad wife dress options. These are my personal favorite, though I also love aspects of the traditional versions – let’s face it, it all depends on the style and fit of the dress.
The 3 Tradwife Dress Options
- Traditional: High necklines, falls around the ankle, long sleeve, simple patterns, natural fibers.
- Modern: Low necklines, short(er) in length, sleeves or no sleeves, any material, more daring colors and patterns.
- In between: A mix of both – maybe ankle lenth, low neckline, short sleeve, and yellow with a little white daisy pattern.
Tips on Wearing a Tradwife Dress
If you’re new to this style of dress, or new to dresses all together – Here are some time to help you feel confident and cozy in your new dress.
- Choose the right style. Below. I have listed the three main styles. The characteristics of them all, shops to buy them from, and even a few direct links to my favorites.
- Layer if desired. Depending on the style you choose, adding a cardigan or shawl may either dress up, or dress down the garment.
- Experiment. Think about buying one of each style dress, and testing how to feel in each one. Possibly you like a traditional style dress, but want to dress it up with a colorful floral shawl.
- Accessorize: Picking the right vintage heels, or leather flats may bring the whole dress together. A dainty matching necklace and ear stud set may also fit well with your new style.
- Most importantly, embrace the trad wife lifestyle. To truly feel your best in this style yo may want to try actually picking up some of the tradwife traits and skills. Such as, sewing, gardening, embroidery, an having an elegant and feminine energy.
